Industry/Application:  Paper Processing - Ceramics Roll Guide-Through-Grinder Equipment

Description:  This is a through grinder machine that is used to grind ceramic edge guides for a paper roll (or web) processing application. The through grinder used 9 Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s) to control the speeds of the grinding motors. Two motors were 30HP and 7 motors were 10HP. The VFD’s were controlled by the system Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The operator controlled the through grinder via pushbuttons on the front of the UL508A electrical cabinets.

Our role in this project was to design, fabricate, and test the electrical and control system and to support testing of the completed through grinder.
