Industry/Application: Aerospace - Stringer Forming Tooling
Description: The item shown is a hydraulic powered stringer fabrication press. The press is capable of generating a 100,000 pound-force to form stringers for an aerospace application. Press equipment includes a large hydraulic cylinder, a hydraulic power unit (HPU), and a custom designed electrical and control system and operator interface unit. In addition, the press incorporates a two-hand operation feature for improved operator safety. The hydraulic press was designed to meet the operational safety requirements of ANSI B11.2-1995 (R2000).
Our role in this project involved electrical and control system design, PLC and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming, UL508A control panel fabrication, and testing of the completed press. The design team received a performance award for their efforts on this project.
