Industry/Application: Aerospace - Mobile Tail Support Tooling for Boeing 747 Large Cargo Freighter
Description: This Mobile Tail Support (MTS) equipment is used to support and rotate the massive, swing-out tail of the Boeing 747 Large Cargo Freighter (LCF) for an aerospace application. The 747 LCF airlifts and delivers large 787 aircraft subassemblies to Everett, Washington for utilization on final assembly line. The MTS includes a Hyster cargo handling forklift, a custom designed hydraulic lift, an X,Y compliance assembly, and a custom designed instrumentation and control system.
Our role in the project involved design and documentation, UL508A electrical panel fabrication, shop testing of the instrumentation and control system, and support of final equipment testing in multiple locations. In addition, we designed and fabricated several pieces of special test equipment to support the various stages of the project.
